Title

LATIN NOIR

Latin Noir is a film about the connection between crime fiction and authoritarian governments across Latin America. From Argentina and Chile, to Mexico and Cuba, the film explores how a new generation of writers, found in hard-boiled detective stories, a way to address a reality characterised by state sponsored violence, increased criminality and human rights violations. These detective stories become our guide and a disillusioned witness to the radical transformations these societies have undergone in the last thirty years, whilst moving from dictatorship to democracy with a market oriented economy.

A remarkable and yet ongoing story of memory, survival and transformation.
